Cajon High School Addition
Jury Award
Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH) & American Institute of Architects California

The Recognition
Cajon High School’s addition earned the Jury Award in the Project in Design category in the Leroy F. Greene Design & Planning Awards presented by the Coalition for Adequate School Housing (CASH) and theAmerican Institute of Architects (AIA) California. The Leroy F. Greene Design & Planning Awards recognize excellence in school facilities design. The Cajon High School addition inspired provocative outside-the-box thinking and was what set this project apart from others.

This honor is given to projects that provoke discussion and bold thinking about the future of school design. Cajon High School’s expansive and unconventional roof structure sparked lively debate among jurors about the balance between cutting-edge architecture, budget realities and functionality in educational environments.

This project ignited a strong and valuable conversation about how innovative school design can be both visionary and achievable.

Behind the Design

  • Recognized for provocative, outside-the-box thinking in school design
  • Sparked critical questions from jurors:
    • Is the scale of the roof appropriate for a school setting?
    • Should functional or cutting-edge design take precedence in classrooms?
    • How can bold, innovative school designs be realistically funded?
  • Jurors concluded that Cajon High School’s design created a productive dialogue about the future of school facilities and the role of innovation in shaping learning environments
